The ~ overcrowded ~ pool is it's only saving grace. There's nothing else to do here. The one activity we were to go to on site said one thing and was something else. Lame. The area outside of this campground is desolate. Travel a good 20 minutes for a signal on your phone to make a call. You better hope and pray that no emergencies occur while you stay in this black hole. If you have other options, explore them.
Wonderful family place to visit. Everyone is so nice with plenty of activities for kids. The pool is amazing....features a shipwreck with its own water slide. Kids stayed there for hours and still did not get tired of it. Everyone is very friendly and nice. Each week is a different theme, which just adds to the enjoyment of the campground.
We have camped here annually for over a decade. The sites are large and fairly private. The heated pool is more like a resort than a campground. The trails are great for hiking and the Creek is awesome! Staff is very friendly and kind. They keep the entire grounds very well maintained and bathrooms very clean. This is just a fantastic camping experience
Let me preface this by saying....We travel all over in New England with our camper. We stay at state parks with no hookups. We also tent camp frequently. I will start by saying something nice about this place ...Nice, large and private sites here. Pool has slides and an eatery poolside. However-Shop around. In this day and age, when it rains and the sun goes down, wifi and cell service is a necessity. In fact... It's now included in Maslow's hierarchy of life's needs. This place is ***wildly*** overpriced for it's offerings. We paid too much for a 3 day weekend with 4 adults and 3 kids - check out the pricing yourself/ whereas we bring our camper from October to May to an all Season campground with indoor heated pool and hot tub near tons of activity for $1500 in New Hampshire. Let that sink in. 4 days for nearly $500 of not so good vs 8 months for 1500$ fall, winter and spring.
The sites are large and nicely, mostly secluded from others. The pool is AMAZING!!! And the staff was great. But the bathrooms are few and far between and there is zero lighting on the paths/road, so its very challenging with kiddos if you're not super close to bathrooms. I also think that for the size of the place and the number of sites available, there should be more then 4 washing machines in the laundromat area. There is absolutely NO cell signal whatsoever, the spotty at best wifi only works if you are at pool area and there is no land line available after hours to call for emergency services, so that irritated me. Some may enjoy the serenity of it but its a bit too secluded for my taste.
I have been going to this campground for almost 10 years and nobody in my group wants to try new campgrounds. We have people that drive from Virginia to camp here with us. Does the place have rules? Yup and any good place does. Is there a new system in place that requires you to wear wrist bands? Yup there is and there should be to keep the campground safe and people who haven't paid to enjoy this great facility out. Camp sites are huge, clean and private and Joe the owner goes out of his way to make sure rules are followed and your stay is a pleasant one. Some of the bad reviews I've read dont add up to us for sure. This place is the cream of the crop and the best campground I've ever been to. If I had to say one negative about the place which I hate to, it would be lack of cell service which is out of their control. Keep up the good work Moose Hillock!
